MLB: Florida 2, Boston 1

Boston, June 18: Dan Uggla and Ronny Paulino hit second-inning homers Thursday and the Florida Marlins held on to defeat Boston 2-1 in a game shortened by rain.

After Jorge Cantu led off the sixth inning with a single the umpires stopped the action because of the persistent showers. The contest was eventually called, allowing the Marlins to halt a two-game skid.

Kevin Youkilis put Boston in front in the first with his 12th homer of the year but Jon Lester (5-6) could not protect the lead.

Uggla led off the second with a homer to left on a 2-2 pitch and, one out later, Paulino worked a full count before hitting a shot to left-center.

Ricky Nolasco (3-6) got the win by working all five innings. The homer to Youkilis was the only hit he allowed and he struck out five.
