New York -- Craig Stammen got his first big league win Thursday and the Washington Nationals got a near-perfect effort from its bullpen to blank the New York Yankees 3-0.

After a rain delay of almost five hours, the Nationals managed to put together their first two-game winning streak since early May. It was the first shutout recorded by Washington this season.

Stammen (1-1) allowed six hits without a walk over 6 1/3 innings. In his previous outing, he left with a lead against Tampa Bay only to see the bullpen let it get away in a 4-3 setback.

This time, four members of the relief corps combined to allow a hit in 2 2/3 innings.

Mike MacDougal worked the ninth for his second save of the season -- both of them coming in the last two days. He gave up a leadoff single to Robinson Cano in the ninth, but Nick Swisher promptly grounded into a double play.

Washington took the lead in the first on an RBI double by Adam Dunn. Wil Nieves drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth to account for another run and Ryan Zimmerman doubled home the final tally in the fifth.

Joba Chamberlain (3-2) took the loss, his first in his last eight starts. He gave up all three runs on seven hits in a six-inning stint.
