MLB: Seattle 5, San Diego 0

San Diego, June 17: Felix Hernandez threw a two-hit, four-walk shutout Tuesday, pitching the Seattle Mariners to a 5-0 inter-league victory over the San Diego Padres.

Hernandez (7-3) allowed just two singles and held the host Padres hitless between the second and ninth innings while striking out six.

Franklin Gutierrez and Adrian Beltre homered for the Mariners, and Ken Griffey Jr. put the game away with a two-run insurance single in the top of the ninth.

Hernandez's 117-pitch effort overshadowed a solid eight innings by San Diego starter Kevin Correia (3-5), who allowed two runs on two hits and struck out five. The loss was the 12th straight inter-league loss for the Padres.

Gutierrez opened the scoring with a solo home run in the third inning. The score held until the seventh when Beltre homered to make it 2-0.

Griffey made it 4-0 in the ninth on his two-run single. Jose Lopez added the fifth run on a sacrifice fly.

Tony Gwynn led off the San Diego ninth with a single, but Hernandez set down the next three batters to end the game.
