Jim Lucas, a Wrentham T-ball coach who masterminded the event that began at 8:01 a.m. Saturday, said the hundreds of local kids between the ages of 5 and 15 who came out to play 101 innings of baseball scored 687 runs for a final score of 348-339, The Boston Globe reported Monday.
The current Guinness Book of World Records states the longest game was played for 32 hours, 29 minutes between two men's St. Louis senior league teams in 2007. Lucas said his players rotated in and out of the game for 36 hours.
Lucas said the event raised money for charities, including Curt's Pitch for ALS, the March of Dimes and the Wrentham Food Bank. He said more than $40,000 had been raised before the long game started and he expects the final total to approach $75,000.
