Ian Stewart is NL player of the week

New York -- Colorado's Ian Stewart, who hit four home runs last week, was chosen the National League player of the week Monday.

Stewart's four home runs led the major leagues in games played June 1-7. He hit two of the homers Saturday in a game at St. Louis. He hit .480 for the week with 12 hits. Stewart also scored nine runs last week.

He finished the week with five consecutive multi-hit games
Monday marked the first NL player of the week award for Stewart.

Other nominees for the award were: Colorado's Clint Barmes; Arizona's Stephen Drew; Chicago's Carlos Zambrano; Cincinnati's Laynce Nix; Florida's Dan Uggla; Houston's Carlos Lee; Los Angeles' Andre Ethier; Milwaukee's Yovani Gallardo; New York's David Wright; Philadelphia's Antonio Bastardo; Pittsburgh's Matt Capps; St. Louis's Chris Carpenter; and Washington's John Lannan.
