MLB: Philadelphia 5, San Diego 1

San Diego -- Unbeaten J.A. Happ threw seven shutout innings and Ryan Howard hit a two-run homer Wednesday, boosting Philadelphia to a 5-1 win over San Diego.

Philadelphia captured its sixth in a row. After winning 10 consecutive games at home, the Padres lost their third straight to the Phillies.

Happ (4-0) allowed four hits and struck out four. He was making his third start of the season after replacing the struggling Chan Ho Park in the rotation. He had made 12 relief appearances before being given the starting role.

Howard hit his home run in the first inning, his 16th of the season, and Pedro Feliz contributed a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0 in the fourth.

Philadelphia scored twice more in the seventh on a run-scoring single by Jayson Werth and a fielder's choice grounder by Raul Ibanez.

Chris Young (4-4) had won his previous four decisions before taking the loss against the Phillies. He gave up three runs on five hits over six innings.
