Medina Garrigues' second-round foe will be Czech Klara Zakopalova, who beat Urszula Radwanska of Poland 7-5, 6-2.
Four other seeds advanced Tuesday. No. 2 Russian Alisa Kleybanova beat Italian Corinna Dentoni 6-2, 6-4; No. 3 Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova beat Galina Voskoboeva of Kazakhstan 6-1, 6-2; No. 7 Italian Roberta Vinci beat Colombian Mariana Duque Marino 2-6, 6-4, 6-1; and No. 8 Israeli Shahar Peer beat Aravane Rezai of France 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
In Tuesday's only upset, Spaniard Lourdes Dominguez Lino defeated fifth-seeded Romanian Sorana Cirtsea 6-3, 6-4.
