The turning point came in the bottom of the fifth inning. Following a two-out passed ball, Chipper Jones and Brian McCann hit back-to-back RBI singles and Atlanta never trailed or tied from that point.
Jones also hit a seventh-inning RBI single and six others knocked in one run each.
Like Jones, Jeff Francoeur and Omar Infante had two hits for the Braves, who have won five of six.
The winner, starter Jair Jurrjens (2-0), gave up four runs -- three earned -- and five hits in 5 1/3 innings with five walks.
Elijah Dukes led Washington with two hits and three RBI.
A run scored on Martin Prado's fifth-inning error, while Adam Dunn and Christian Guzman also had two hits for the Nationals, who will play their home opener Monday against Philadelphia.
The losing pitcher was Scott Olsen (0-2).
